Club History

Old Scotch Collegians, who are inclined to athletics, are invited to attend a meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to form an old boys athletic club.

            - The Herald, 10 November 1926

From these humble beginnings, the Old Scotch Collegians Athletic Club was formed. With then principal Dr Littlejohn as the inaugural club President, the Club competed with a mere nine members in its first cross country event. Soon afterwards, the Club entered the summer track and field competition.

During its early years, the Club competed at Olympic Park, the only track and field venue at the time. While competition was difficult during the early 1940s, the 1950s saw Old Scotch flex its muscles with its debut A grade appearance in 1953-54. Despite a subscription increase to 1 10s, membership rose to 145 athletes by 1957-58. With such depth, Old Scotch dominated the Victorian league for many years.

From these Golden Years, Old Scotch proceeded to assert its dominance, breaking multiple Club records. Over the following decades, competition moved to Melbourne University followed by Heidelberg, Box Hill, Doncaster and again to Box Hill up until the present day.

The late 1980s and early 1990s saw lean times at the Old Scotch Collegians Athletic Club. However, with membership newly opened to friends and family of Old Boys and with a strong recruiting drive, the club began to regain lost ground. Membership once again soared above 100, assisted by the Clubs first female team.

With this strong heritage as its foundation, the Old Scotch Collegians Athletic Club will no doubt continue with success in its endeavor to produce athletes of high standard amidst an environment of friendly competition.
